Fashion

A luxury handbag is fashion accessory, a status symbol, and a lucrative asset. Vintage handbags from houses such as Hermès, Dior and Chanel can be worth far more than the retail price, making them excellent collateral for a short-term loan. Iconic styles, such as the Birkin bag, are particularly valuable: with designers limiting the quantities produced, and who can access them, the pre-loved handbags that exist on the secondary market are all the more sought-after. Taking out a loan against your handbag means you can hold on to your coveted arm candy and capitalise on its value.
What types of handbags do you consider for a loan?
We consider handbags of all shapes, sizes and materials from major brands including Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Dior, Hermès and Louis Vuitton.
How do I get a loan against my handbag?
Simply fill out the form below, and we’ll be in touch to find out more about your handbag and arrange collection. We’ll appraise the item and make you a loan offer based on our professional valuation. Alternatively, you can call us on 020 7665 8307 or email contact@eldens.co.uk.
How much can I borrow against my handbag?
The amount you can borrow depends on the value of your handbag and the LTV (Loan to Value) percentage. Our LTV on handbags is typically 50-70%. So, if your item is worth £50,000 you could expect to borrow anything from £25,000 – £35,000. Typically, we handle handbags valued from £10,000 upwards.
Appraising your handbag
To appraise your handbag and produce an accurate valuation, our experts will consider multiple factors:
Brand and model – As well as brand, the specific model of handbag can make a big difference to its value. Certain styles, such as a Louis Vuitton “Speedy” are always sought-after, and those that are limited-edition versions of a classic, like the extremely rare Himalaya Birkin, command a huge premium.
Condition – The condition of handbags can vary widely, from those in mint condition that are still in their original wrappings, to those that have been worn and loved over many years. We inspect every inch of your handbag, inside and out, to assess its condition and its market value.
Provenance – A sales receipt and insurance documents are helpful for producing an accurate valuation. For handbags made of exotic leathers and skins, a CITES certificate is required.
Collection and storage of your handbag
Your handbag will be professionally handled at all times. It remains protected from the moment it’s collected by our in-house logistics team, until it’s safely and securely returned, following repayment of the loan. All handbags are insured for fair market value by underwriters who are part of Lloyds of London.
Once your handbag has been appraised we create a condition report (for client reference and internal use only). It’s then professionally sealed, soft wrapped and transported to our climate-controlled storage facility.
